During Feb 22-26, I will be joining millions of other kids to help save lives with the American Heart Association's Jump Rope For Heart Program! Kids like my little sister Aubrey.
I'm doing the Jump Rope For Heart program at my school and learning about kids with special hearts. I'm also learning about my own heart, and how to take care of it. And I'm getting active and jumping rope!
Aubrey was prenatally diagnosed with Pulmonary Valve Artresia. She has had many heart surgeries. Last August she had another open heart surgery that shut down her right ventricle. While I got to stay in Ronald McDonald houses, I did not like seeing my sister hurting in the hospital. She is special to me and Evan and special to my Mom and Dad and that is why I am going to work real hard and Jump Rope as much as I can.
I'm excited about raising money to help kids like Aubrey with special hearts. Please help me save lives and be a Heart Hero!

The names of our kids
Jennifer and I have chose names for our kids that have history and family interwoven.
The Hughs family came to America in the 1840's. They settled in Graham, Missouri just north of St. Joseph. John Hughs (my Great-Great-Great Grandfather) and his brothers came from a small island named the Isle of Man. The Isle of Man is located in the Irish Sea. It is to the East of Ireland, The West of Great Britain, and to the north of Wales.
Since I like tradition, history, and meanings, I felt it appropriate to list the children names and meanings below. There is also a link for my geneology work at the bottom.
FIRST NAMES:
Dylan
Very strong Welsh roots.
(Welsh) "Of the sea," or "influence"
Aubrey
(Welsh and Old-English origins) "Rules with elf wisdom," or "Elf-Ruler."
Evan
(Welsh)"God is good," "God has shown favor," The Lord is Gracious," or "God has been gracious."
(Celtic) "Young warrior"
(Hebrew) "Rock"

Owen
(Welsh) "Well born man"
Owen is also a form of Eugene, which is Jennifer's Dad's middle name. Got to keep ensuring we pass down a family name. By the way Owen is the first of our children not born in Missouri. Oh well, at least the Hendrix part of the family has roots in Belleville, IL!
MIDDLE NAMES:
Glenn
(Irish/Gaelic) "From the valley," "Between the valley," a glen is a place located in a valley.
Glenn is my middle name, my father's middle name, and my grandfather's(paternal) middle name. My grandfather also uses the nickname "Glen," which is derived from "Glenn."
Elaine
(Greek) "Shining light," "Sun ray," "Torch"
(Welsh) "Fawn"
(French) "Shining light"
Elaine is Jennifer's middle name.
Robert
(Old English and Old German) "Bright, shining fame"
Robert is my first name and my my grandfather's(maternal) first name. It is also the name of my dad's best friend, Bob Morton, who is one of my close best friends.
Zachary
(English)"The Lord Remembers"
And of course the surname "Hughs" is a variant of "Hughes."
Hughes is a very common Welsh and Isle of Man name. It's meaning comes from Old German and means "Son of Hugh."
Hugh has a (Welsh and Latin) meaning of "thinker and intelligent"
